Dr. Art Markman on Creating "Smart Change"
Today I’m joined by Dr. Art Markman. Dr. Markman is a cognitive psychologist by trade. In addition to his ‘day job’ serving as Vice Provost of Academic Affairs at University of Texas, Dr. Markman is an author of a couple books, one of those is focused on how to create behavior change, called ‘Smart Change’ which we will unpack today. He also is a regular writer for Psychology Today, Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, and more as well as a podcast host and speaker. Dr. Markman's aim "is to bring insights from Cognitive Science to everyone with a mind.”
I initially met Dr. Markman last year when we hired him to speak at a recent Qnity conference. I read his book, ‘Smart Change’ and while it’s not a specific book on changing habits with money - there’s so much that can be applied to the topic. What I really like about Dr. Markman is the depth of knowledge that Dr. Markman has on a wide variety of topics. In this episode, we will hear Dr. Markman’s take on intergenerational wealth patterns, talk about the ‘what the hell effect’, how to automate specific habits, the importance of your environment and tapping into others, and so much more.
If you like psychology and examining the way you think and act, I think you’ll really enjoy this episode.
